Academic Alliances

At Zyvex, we continue to develop R&D programs and activities to support leading academic institutions working on nanotechnology initiatives critical to our nation’s economic development, health, and safety.

Some of our academic partners include the University of Texas at Dallas, the University of Virginia, Berkeley Sensor & Actuator Center (BSAC), Michigan Technological University, The Center for Biological and Environmental Nanotechnology (CBEN), MIT’s Institute for Soldier Nanotechnologies, the Center for Advanced Manufacturing and Packaging of Microwave, Optical, and Digital Electronics (CAMPmode) at the University of Colorado, Drexel University, Texas State Technical College in Waco, Baylor University, South Dakota School of Mines & Technology, and the Princeton Institute for the Science and Technologies of Materials at Princeton University.

Zyvex is proud to be a sponsor of NanoKids™. This educational outreach program, headed by Dr. James M. Tour, Chao Professor of Chemistry at Rice University, is dedicated to increasing public knowledge of the nanoscale world and the emerging molecular research and technology that is rapidly expanding internationally. Based on actual anthropomorphic molecules synthesized in the laboratory, the NanoKids™ visual concept utilizes universally recognized forms exhibiting human characteristics to instruct, motivate, and entertain.

Zyvex is also proud to be a partner of MIT’s Institute for Soldier Nanotechnologies (ISN) oin May 2004. ISN is an interdepartmental research center at MIT. Established in 2002 by a five-year, $50 million contract from the U.S. Army, the ISN’s research mission is to use nanotechnology to dramatically improve the survival of soldiers. The ultimate goal is to create a 21st century battlesuit that combines high-tech capabilities with light weight and comfort.

Imagine a bullet-proof jumpsuit, no thicker than ordinary spandex, that monitors health, eases injuries, communicates automatically, and maybe even lends superhuman abilities. It’s a long-range vision for how technology can make soldiers less vulnerable to enemy and environmental threats. More background information is available on the ISN’s web site.
